What is the meaning / definition of Worldspan in the hospitality industry?

Worldspan is a company providing worldwide electronic distribution of travel information, internet products, connectivity and e-commerce capabilities for travel agencies and other travel service providers, such as hotels.

Its main system is the GDS (Global Distribution System) – used by travel agents and OTAs to book/ sell hotel rooms and other travel related products (airline tickets, rental cars, tour packages etc.).

Originally, Worldspan was created in early 1990 when Delta Air Lines, Northwest Airlines, and Trans World Airlines decided to merge their reservations systems into a single system. With time the company expanded to other travel services. It is today part of Travelport.
