What is the meaning / definition of Switch in the hospitality industry?
The term Switch refers to the ‘Pegasus Swich’ – a tool which is used to deliver rates and availability for hotel rooms to the Global Distribution Systems (GDS).
THISCO – the previous name of Pegasus Solutions and an acronym for The Hotel Industry Switch Company was established in 1989 by 17 leading hotel companies with the mandate to provide electronic connectivity between hotel CRSs and the five global distribution systems. The connectivity platform was christened UltraSwitch. It developed since and several other services have been added. Those include reservation representation services, travel agency commission payment, content management, data caching and connectivity to online travel agencies and numerous online hotel booking websites.
